THE APPOINTMENT of a new executive director of the European Food Safety Agency (EFSA) has come at a crucial time for this European Union (EU) body that has such an impact on environmental health officers' work. It is now four-years-old and so its future role and function can be moulded with the hindsight of experience. In an interview at her office on Parma, Italy, EFSA chief officer Catherine Geslain-Lanéelle explained how she wants to make EFSA's links with national food regulators more effective.
