ECJ IMPEDES ANHEUSER-BUSCH ‘BUD’ TRADEMARK PLANS

EUROPEAN Union (EU) judges have erected a barrier impeding the plans of US brewer Anheuser-Busch to trademark the word 'Bud' across in all EU member states. The European Court of Justice (ECJ) Court of First Instance has underlined the right of Anheuser's Czech rival Bud?jovický Budvar to fight its use of 'Bud' in France, the Czech Republic and Austria, where the Czechs already have trademark rights to the abbreviation.
