THE EUROPEAN Court of Justice's Court of First Instance has ruled that EU member governments have the right to ban four antibiotics as additives in animal feed, saying this was "not a disproportionate measure given the need to protect public health." Drug companies Pfizer and Alpharma had claimed the ban was "unrealistic" and more political than scientific.
