BY KEITH NUTHALLMEAT consumption in eastern European countries joining the European Union (EU) this May generally fell by 10-20 per cent during the 1990s, falling significantly below per capita consumption in the existing EU, according to a European Commission report. Tastes also changed, with beef and mutton demand falling sharply, while rising for pork and poultry.
