CZECH REPUBLIC EU COAL MINING SUBSIDIES

BY KEITH NUTHALLTHE EUROPEAN Commission has approved a planned payment by the Czech government of Euro 74 million to its coal industry, because it will cover liabilities arising from the closure of mines in the national sector, rather than operating remaining production. The Czech coal industry does not currently receive any standard operating subsidies. It is estimated that coal will meet approximately 25% of the country's energy mix until 2030.
