BY ALAN OSBORNTHE EUROPEAN Parliament's environment committee has amended proposed European Union additive legislation by calling for much stricter cuts in maximum permitted doses of cyclamates in soft drinks, but has withdrawn its call for a total ban on the artificial sweetener. The present permitted level is 400 mg/l and the European Commission has proposed cutting this to 350 mg/l.
