COUNTERFEIT GOOD SEIZURES FELL IN 2007, EUROPEAN COMMISSION CONCLUDES

THE NUMBER of counterfeit goods seized at the external borders of the European Union (EU) fell in 2007, the European Commission has concluded. After an annual survey, Brussels said 79 million fake goods were seized in 2007, compared with 128 million in 2006. The main reason: significant declines in the numbers of counterfeit cigarettes, CDs and DVDs seized by EU customs officials, That said, there were major increases in seizures of other fake items: counterfeit cosmetics and personal care items rose by 264%; fake toys by 98%; and bogus ...
