COTTON PRICES AFFECT BANGLADESH DYE IMPORTS

THE BANGLADESHI demand for textile dyes and finishing chemicals such as sodium sulphate, oxalic acid and ferrous sulphate - imported from the UK, Asia and India - could deflate as the country's US$10 billion apparel industry is facing a sudden rise in input costs. Many of the 4,000 factories exporting apparels are likely to lose new orders - some even face closure - as the cost of cotton yarn has risen by 20 to 30% since December 2009.
