COMMISSION REQUEST FOR ASPARTAME REVIEW BROUGHT FORWARD NINE YEARS

BY MJ DESCHAMPS and KEITH NUTHALL THE EUROPEAN Food Safety Authority (EFSA) is to bring forward from 2020 a request by the European Commission for a re-evaluation of aspartame's safety, despite recent scientific assessments failing to reveal fresh concerns about the sweetener. Indeed, EFSA reviewed the latest studies on aspartame only last month.
