EUROPEAN Union (EU) agriculture Commissioner Mariann Fischer Boel has assured farmers they will not have to comply with water framework directive to get EU subsidies. Food producers have feared a revamp of EU common agricultural policy financial controls would force them to prove they were managing water supplies to safeguard the health of nearby river systems.
