COMMISSION LAUNCHES NEW SUNSCREEN LABEL SCHEME

BY KEITH NUTHALL THE EUROPEAN Commission has launched a campaign to promote the appearance of new European Union (EU)-approved sunscreen labelling designed to help sunbathers understand the protection they receive. The new system prevents descriptors such as 'sunblock' or '100% protection' and will be used on 20% of sunscreen bottles this summer, and most bottles in 2008, says Brussels. Another improvement are its standardised verbal terms such as ('low' - 'medium' - 'high' and 'very high' protection) alongside traditional SPF (sun protection factor indicators). ...
