COMMISSION CONSIDERING ALLOWING MEMBER STATES TO REDUCE AUDIO BOOKS VAT

A ROW over VAT charged on audio books in Scandinavia could lead to legislative proposals from the European Commission allowing these products to attract reduced rates of VAT in all 27 European Union (EU) member states.
Brussels is currently reviewing EU VAT legislation which, while it does not harmonise VAT rates per se, does insist that all products attract full VAT rates, unless they are explicitly included in reduced rate product list. It currently includes printed books, nut not audio books.
