A DETAILED and comprehensive code of hygienic practice for meat production is amongst the 20 new food guidelines approved last week by the ruling commission of world food standards body Codex Alimentarius. It contains global guidelines on slaughtering, feeding and transporting livestock, pre-slaughter inspections, hazard assessments, dressing meat, recall systems, meat handlers' cleanliness and microbiological testing.
