CODEX PLOTS NEW FLAVOURING STANDARDS

BY KEITH NUTHALLMEMBER countries of global food standards body Codex Alimentarius are being consulted on new draft guidelines on the use of flavourings, to be approved by the organisation's ruling commission, in Rome, at a July 2-7 session. Codex is seeking comments on the flavouring rules by May 30. The commission is unlikely to agree the entire standard and a working party has been asked to reconsider a section highlighting controls for "certain biologically active substances", notably which flavourings should be covered here and how they should be ...
