BY ALYSHAH HASHAM Africa produces 70% of the world' s cocoa; Asia and Oceania (Pacific islands) provide 19%; and the remaining 11% is from the Americas, according to the International Cocoa Organisation (ICCO). There are 5-6 million farmers worldwide - most with farms that cover 2 to 5 hectares. Total global cocoa production in 2009-2010 was 3,536,000 tonnes, 1,000 tonnes more than the previous year but more than 100,000 tonnes less than 2007-2008.
