CLEAN COAL GRANTS

BY KEITH NUTHALLTHE EUROPEAN Commission has appealed for proposals for EU grants, which would fund technological initiatives boosting the clean and efficient use of solid fuels, notably the use of clean coal technologies by power plants to limit emissions such as carbon dioxide. Brussels said that it would especially favour proposals on boosting the environmental performance of the Russian electricity sector, and also that of countries applying to join the EU that use solid fuels for power, such as oil shale in Estonia, and hard coal and lignite in Poland.
