ANIMAL welfare group Compassion in World Farming (CWF) has told globalmeatnews.com that European Union (EU) livestock transport rules are being broken within the EU and also when animals are exported outside the bloc.Olga Kikou, the organisation’s European affairs manager, is concerned that while the EU’s regulation EC 1/2005 on the protection of animals during transport insists that livestock receive rest, feeing and watering, it does not cap total journey durations.
