Still unsettled from the 7.1 magnitude earthquake that hit in September 2010, the country's self-styled garden city was struck by a 6.3 magnitude aftershock that proved to be more damaging than the initial quake. With an epicentre just underneath central Christchurch, February's aftershock crippled the city's central business district (CBD) as well as its eastern suburbs, killing 181.
