CHINA LAUNCHES WTO APPEAL AGAINST RULING ON US PLANNED ALUMINIUM EXTRUSION DUTY

The Chinese government is fighting a rearguard action at the World Trade Organisation (WTO) against US plans to impose countervailing duties on exports to America of Chinese-made aluminium extrusions.It has lodged an appeal against a WTO disputes settlement body (DSB) ruling that these US plans were partly justified under world trade rules.Washington has argued, said a DSB memorandum, “that primary aluminium was being provided by SOEs [state-owned enterprises] to primary aluminium consumers in China for less than adequate remuneration…” As a result, Chinese ...
