DALLAS based Hunt Oil Co. has taken over Chieftain International Inc., an Edmonton-based and Canadian-owned natural gas producer, with assets in the Gulf of Mexico, for CAN$915-million. Hunt is offering US$29 in cash for each Chieftain share and is to assume US$15-million of debt. Chieftain's properties in the Gulf, produce 105 million cubic feet a day of natural gas.
