A MERGER of the e-commerce operations of Canadian book retailers Chapters Inc. and Indigo Books and Music is to go ahead, before official federal government approval has been secured for the union of the two companies.

Canada's Competition Tribunal will begin hearings into the would-be Chapters-Indigo marriage this week, and there is speculation that the linking of the two sites is a sign that the companies expect the take-over to be cleared by the authorities.
