CASCADE SENSOR TECHNOLOGY TARGETS AIRPORT ENERGY AND EMISSIONS SAVINGS

A NEW software and sensor system designed to reduce carbon emissions and energy costs by 20% in airports is being trialled at Rome’s Fiumicino and Milan's Malpensa airports. This new CASCADE system has been developed through a EUR2.6 million European Union (EU) research project. The goal is saving these pilot airports at least 6,000 MWh energy consumption annually, equalling 42,000 tonnes of CO2 and EUR840,000 in bills.
