BY ALAN OSBORNTHE CARMEUSE Group of Liege, Belgium, one of the world's largest producers of lime, is to strengthen its presence in eastern Europe with a major investment in Romania that is being supported by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). Carmeuse is creating a new holding company - Carmeuse Eastern Europe - to consolidate and operate its three existing businesses in Romania and to acquire Var Fieni, a lime facility in that country, from the German company HeidelbergCement.
