BY KEITH NUTHALLTHE EUROPEAN Commission has proposed a technical directive that would impose standards on European Union (EU) automotive manufacturers, so that their new cars, sports utility vehicles, minibuses and light vans can be more easily recycled once they are scrapped. The aim of the legislation is to help them comply with the 2000 end of life vehicle directive, that insists 85 per cent of a new vehicle model's mass be recyclable by 2006.
