CANS PLAY IMPORTANT ROLE IN DELIVERING FOOD AND DRINK TO THE NEEDY IN DISASTER ZONES

METAL cans play an important role in enabling aid agencies to deliver food and drink to needy people in disaster zones and areas of food scarcity - being sturdy, stackable, and recyclable. The scale of some of these operations and hence their demand for canned food and drink is huge. The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) alone purchased 3.6 million tonnes of food in 2018, and the agency used 18 million cans in 2018; 11.8 million in 2017; 18 million in 2016; and 38 million in 2015.
