CANCUN COTTON PLAN

KEITH NUTHALLTHE WEST African countries of Benin, Burkina Faso, Chad and Mali have tabled an ambitious plan for the swift dismantling of developed country cotton subsidies; it will be examined at the World Trade Organisation's ministerial summit in Cancun, Mexico, which opened today (Sept 10).Its text said the sponsors were "anxious to ensure open, equitable and just multilateral trade and to eliminate all distortions in the production and marketing of cotton..."Indeed, the plan calls for WTO member to agree the elimination of domestic support and cotton export ...
