CANADIAN PARLIAMENT SUPPORTS NEW BIOFUEL BILL

BY KEITH NUTHALL

THE CANADIAN parliament has approved a bill that allows its federal government to require a 5% average biofuel content in petrol used in Canada by 2010. It can also require 2% average biofuel content in diesel and heating oil by 2012. The law follows Canada's 2007 budget earmarking CDN$2 billion in subsidies over seven years, supporting biofuel production.
