CANADIAN BEEF PRODUCERS WELCOME RESUMPTION OF WORK AT XL LAKESIDE PLANT

CANADIAN beef producers have welcomed the resumption of work at the XL Foods Inc. Lakeside plant, which had been closed in September, following an E-coli outbreak. The Brooks, southern Alberta, plant received a new operating licence from Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) last week. This allowed the plant to gradually resume slaughter and processing operations, but it will remain under enhanced surveillance by authorities.
