FACED with ever tightening restrictions on production, marketing and distribution, the tobacco sector is keeping a close eye on how the legalisation in Canada of another largely smoked product – cannabis – rolls out. On October 17, 2018, the consumption and cultivation of cannabis in Canada will become legal, making it the first G7 country to legalise recreational cannabis nationwide. The drug will become legal at the federal, provincial or territorial, and local levels.
