BRUSSELS TRIES TO SEIZE INITIATIVE OVER BOOK DIGITISATION

THE EUROPEAN Commission has made a serious attempt to wrest control of the digitisation of European Union (EU)-published books, with a formal policy paper sparking an immediate major consultation exercise with European publishers.
Its initiative comes as Google tries to salvage its book digitisation project, possibly by excluding European books until it secures a deal over EU copyright controls and remuneration for publishers and authors.
