BRUSSELS RESPONDS TO TURKEY FMD THREAT

BY KEITH NUTHALLTHE EUROPEAN Commission has dispatched 1.5 million doses of trivalent vaccine to fight foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) in Thrace, Turkey, on the European mainland, near the country's borders with Greece and Bulgaria. Brussels is concerned that FMD is endemic in parts of Turkey, especially with two outbreaks being reported this year close to the European Union, where livestock has free movement.
