BRUSSELS PREPARES TO CONTINUE FUNDING DECOMMISSIONING OF OLD NUCLEAR POWER PLANTS

A REPORT on the millions of Euros spent by the European Union (EU) on decommissioning old nuclear power plants in Lithuania, Slovakia and Bulgaria has indicated that the EU will continue financing this work well into this decade. The European Commission study says that by the end of 2009 alone, Euro EUR2.7 billion of Brussels funds had been spent on decommissioning Ignalina units 1 and 2 in Lithuania, Bohunice units 1 and 2, and Kozloduy units 1 to 4 in Bulgaria.
