BRUSSELS GOES TO COURT TO FORCE ITALY TO RECOVER SARDINIAN ALUMINA SUBSIDIES

BY KEITH NUTHALL THE EUROPEAN Commission has lost patience with Italy over its failure to recover Euro EUR25 million illegal subsidies paid to a Sardinia alumina plant, taking its government to the European Court of Justice (ECJ). Brussels wants judges to order compliance from Italy. If it refuses, the court could then order Italy to pay heavy daily recurring fines until the plant's current owner - OAO Russian Aluminium - pays the money back.
