BRUSSELS CALLS FOR MORE WIFI SPECTRUM

A EUROPEAN Commission study has called for an increase in spectrum allocated to wifi, to help communications service providers deal with growing demand. It noted that 71% of all European Union (EU) wireless data traffic in 2012 was delivered to smartphones and tablets using wifi, possibly rising to 78% by 2016. As a result, it suggests making spectrum from 5150 MHz to 5925 MHz available globally for wifi. It proposed cutting administration restricting off-load services and networks in public locations.
