BRUSSELS ANNOUNCES MARKETING PROTECTION FOR ITALIAN SALAMI, SPANISH BREAD AND PORTUGUESE POTATOES

BY KEITH NUTHALL SPECIAL marketing protection has been announced by the European Commission for three more traditional products: an Italian salami - 'Ciauscolo'; a Spanish bread 'Pan de Cruz de Ciudad Real' and a Portuguese sweet potato - 'Batata doce de Aljezur'. Brussels has passed a regulation saying these products cannot be sold in the European Union (EU) under these names unless they are made using traditional methods in their historic home regions.
