BRITAIN FACES EU LEGAL ACTION OVER WORKING TIME CHECKS

BY KEITH NUTHALL THE BRITISH government is facing legal proceedings from the European Commission, which claims that the UK has failed to arrange for a sufficient number of checks on lorry drivers' working time. Brussels is taking action at the European Court of Justice (ECJ), alleging Britain is breaching a directive - 2006/22/EC - on implementing road transport employment legislation. This insists checks on compliance with rules on driving time and rest periods progressively increases from currently 1% of the total days worked to 2% in 2008 and 3% in 2010. ...
