BIRD FLU MEETING

BY ALAN OSBORNVETS and government officials of the 25 EU member states were due to meet in Brussels yesterday (Thursday) to consider whether more European farmers should be banned from keeping poultry outdoors as a precaution against bird flu. The Netherlands has already introduced a ban and Germany may follow suit in the next few weeks. However such a move is unlikely in Britain: Defra said this week that it would be "disproportionate" as the risk of the disease spreading to the UK was "very low."The concern in Brussels is that migratory wild birds from Russia ...
