BIOPESTICIDES CAN DEFEAT LOCUST PLAGUES SAYS FAO

BY KEITH NUTHALL THE UN Food & Agriculture Organisation (FAO) is claiming bio-pesticides can defeat locust infestation, having claimed success in fighting the destructive insect in Tanzania with the 'Green Muscle' pesticide. This includes spores of the fungus 'Metarhizium anisopliae' and a mixture of mineral oils. "The biopesticide is not toxic to humans and kills only locusts and grasshoppers; it has no other environmental side-effects," said an FAO note.
