BIOGAS CAUSES MORE AIR POLLUTION THAN PETROL CLAIM US SCIENTISTS

BY MONICA DOBIE
A STUDY has warned that should all vehicles in the USA switch from mineral fuels to ethanol the result would be 200 more annual air pollution-related deaths in America. Professor Mark Jacobson of Stanford University has argued that ethanol produces more hydrocarbons than petrol and longer-lasting pollutants that can travel farther. He said urban areas would be most at risk particularly Los Angeles because of its existing smog problem.

Opponents say ethanol remains greener than petrol.
