POLICYMAKERS seeking to reduce binge-drinking should find ways of sending messages via complex social networks of friends who regularly abuse alcohol, a British study has concluded. Researchers at Durham University's Institute of Advanced Study and Volterra Consulting UK have thrown doubt on UK government assumptions that binge drinking is usually promoted by influential individuals, and that persuading such charismatic people to curb drinking will reduce alcohol abuse generally.
