THE ALLIANCE on Bangladesh Worker Safety has also received a renewed mandate to carry on its health and safety work. The Alliance’s responsibilities will now be extended to December this year (2018), said Jim Moriarty, executive director at the Alliance, whose authorisation was supposed to end on July 10, (2018), but will now be extended. The Alliance, which sprang to life in 2013 after the Rana Plaza building collapse, is now working with “trusted partners” to set up a locally-led Safety Monitoring Organisation (SMO) that will oversee the continuing safety ...
