AUSTRALIA TO INTRODUCE DPAS

Australia is to follow the United States and, more recently, the UK, in introducing deferred prosecution agreements (DPAs) for serious corporate crimes such as fraud and bribery. The Australian Attorney General’s Department has said it is drafting legislation, which will be released later this year. Australian prosecutors would offer DPAs when companies cooperate fully with investigation and it is in the public interest.
