AFRICAN SWINE FEVER SPREADS TO COMMERCIAL HOLDING IN LITHUANIA

A STATE of emergency was declared on 28 July in the Ignalina district of Lithuania after African Swine Fever was discovered in a Danish-owned pig complex, bordering Latvia. This is the first outbreak of African Swine Fever (ASF) in a commercial holding in the European Union. All 19,000 pigs of the Danish holding Idavang have been culled to prevent the spread of the virus.It is not known yet how the virus entered the area, as the secure complex.
