HEALTH-related research projects will command budgets of Euro 5.9 billion from 2007-13 under a draft rewritten European Union (EU) seventh framework programme (FP7). Now under discussion at the European Parliament and the EU Council of Ministers, these funds would be part of the programme's targeted research section. Pharmaceutical companies would be able to bid for money from the FP7 if they form alliances with other companies or research units in the sector.
