EUROPEAN COMMISSION ACTS AGAINST FRANCE IN SOLID FUEL TAX ROW

THE EUROPEAN Commission is taking France to the European Court of Justice (ECJ) because it has failed to implement the 2003 extension of the European Union (EU) energy taxation directive from oil and diesel to include solid fuels, gas and electricity. The law imposes maximum and minimum taxation rates for solid and other fuel consumption.
