DESPITE scientific disagreements and public concerns over the possible health effects caused by exposure to man-made electromagnetic fields (EMF), studies have been showing that the use of non-ionising radiation for magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is safe for nurses. And this has prompted the European Commission to propose exempting MRI technology from the exposure limits in a planned revision of the European Union's (EU) physical agents (electromagnetic fields) directive 2004/40/EC, as amended in 2008.
