FIRST PROSECUTION MADE UNDER UK BRIBERY ACT

THE UK'S Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) has launched its first prosecution under the 2010 Bribery Act, agreeing charges against a court clerk alleged to have offered to influence criminal proceedings against a traffic offence defendant for a GBP500 bribe.
Munir Yakub Patel will now appear at Southwark Crown Court, south London, on October 14, charged under Section 2 of the act for "requesting and receiving a bribe intending to improperly perform his functions". Patel worked at Redbridge Magistrates' Court, Ilford, east London and has ...
