EU’S NEW RULES FOR THE WINE SECTOR
December 9th, 2025We propose a story outlining the key regulatory changes in the EU’s provisional agreement to strengthen and future-proof the EU wine sector and how it would affect Europe’s top wine producing regions. The article would cover the proposed amendments, which include simplified, harmonised labelling rules including digital options; clarified definitions for alcohol-free (below 0.5%) and reduced-alcohol wines; expanded climate-resilience support with funding for adaptation and mitigation up to 80%; export flexibility exempting non-EU wines from EU ingredient and nutrition disclosure; and new tools for balancing production and demand, such as grubbing-up schemes. With correspondents in every EU wine region, we can provide on-the-ground insight from producers, trade associations, and industry experts while our Brussels correspondents can get policy analysis from the EU.
