EU FRAUD CASE NUMBERS STABLE IN 2021 COMPARED TO 2020, BUT FINANCIAL COSTS LEAP TO EUR1.82 BILLION

Case numbers for both fraud and non-fraudulent irregularities against the European Union (EU) budget detected by EU and member state authorities remained stable in 2021 compared to 2020, but the amounts involved more than doubled to EUR3.24 billion (USD3.17 billion) from EUR1.46 billion (USD1.43 billion).
