AUTO INDUSTRY CONTESTS EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT PUSH FOR TOUGH TRUCK EMISSIONS GOALS

THE EUROPEAN car industry has slammed the “excessively aggressive CO2 reduction targets” for new heavy-duty vehicles – trucks and lorries - backed by the European Parliament – the European Union (EU)’s directly-elected legislative body – on November 14 in at the Strasbourg plenary session. Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) voted in favour of Dutch Green MEP Bas Eickhout’s proposals, which said that by 2025, trucks must cut CO2 emissions by 20%, instead of 15% in the original proposal issued by the EU executive, the European Commission. ...
